Digital Formative Assessment
Formative assessment is a tool we use in the classroom that allows the teacher to see what students know. I use formative assessments to help me know where the class is in their understanding of what I am teaching. There are many different types of formative assessment, some that you may have heard from your child or previous teachers are exit tickets, questioning, and Think, Pair, Share. I will be utilizing exit tickets in my classroom. There are also digital formative assessment tools that can be used in the classroom. There are two of these tools that we will be using in our classroom this year. These tools are called Plickers and Kahoot! Please see below for more information on these tools.
Exit Tickets

Exit tickets are sometimes used at the end of the lesson. These tickets typically have between 1 and 3 questions on them that cover what I have taught in the lesson. I use these to determine whether or not students are ready to move on to the next lesson or if I need to review the information with one student, a group of students, or all students.
Plickers

Plickers is an assessment tool that allows me to get results instantly. Students will each have a card in their desk that will be used for their responses. When I ask a question, I will give them options (A, B, C, D or True/False). When they select their option, they will hold up their card with their answer facing up-I will use my phone or Ipad to scan the room's cards. Every student's card is different allowing me to know who responded and how they responded. I can take the information that has been gathered to determine who might need additional help to understand the content.
Kahoot!

Kahoot is a game based learning platform that we will use when we are in the technology lab or if we have the Chromebook cart in our classroom. It is a tool that allows me to create quizzes and students can log on to select their answers. Sometimes, I will have students do this individually so that I can see what they know and other times I will have students do this in groups.
