Assistive Technology
Assistive technology is any item, tool, equipment, technology that is being used to help a student with disabilities to improve, increase, or maintain their capabilities. There are many different items that can be used for this purpose. Below, I have attached a presentation that I created as an example of tools that we could use for a student named "Jack". If your child, or any child in the classroom is in need of assistive technology, this presentation is an example of what we could do to help. However, there are many more options and the options can vary depending on the individual child's needs.
Cleveland State University
Cleveland State University has a list of assistive technology tools on their website. This list was compiled by occupational therapy students as part of a class project.
Reading Rockets
Reading Rockets is an excellent resource for all things literacy. This specific link takes you to a page on assistive technology for students with learning disabilities. It provides information about what assistive technology is, what types of problems it can help, and what tools are available.
